The Porsche 911, with its superb technical specification and motorsport pedigree, is one of the most admired cars ever built. Expensive too, and well beyond the reach of most people, until this manual came along. With over 700 illustrations and text aimed at the DIY enthusiast, the book outlines the history of the marque, and advises how to renovate chassis and bodywork, mechanical and electrical components; what to look for when buying a 911; and what modifications are possible. It also lists changes in production details up to 1983.
Rather like the car it describes, the evergreen
The Porsche 911 is arguably the most instantly recognisable sports car in the world, and has become an icon. Since its introduction more than 40 years ago the 911 has been constantly refined and updated to maintain its position at the forefront of the supercar league. Despite its awe-inspiring performance, the use of advanced engineering and leading-edge technology has ensured that it is undoubtedly one of the most usable and durable high-performance cars available.
For the first time in its 34-year career the Porsche 911 was reborn with completely new technology, but the goal remained as it always had been – to guarantee that driving in its finest form would continue far into the future. This beautifully illustrated all-colour book demonstrates the best 911 ever, on the most photogenic roads of Europe and North America.
A re-issued compendium of vital information for the owner and prospective owner of Porsche’s dynamic but affordable front-engined cars. Includes model histories, and data on buying, maintenance and specifications, together with hints on the practicalities of going racing.
The Boxster, launched in 1996, has been a huge success for Porsche. There is no-one better to write about the Boxster than Paul Frere, himself something of a Porsche legend, as the author of Porsche 911 Story, now in its eighth edition. He tells the full story of this flagship two-seater, which, despite considerable performance, is remarkably practical for everyday road use. Steady evolution of the car, its engines and running gear has ensured the Boxster's long-term success, with annual sales, at one stage, matching those of the legendary 911.
This one-stop expert reference book is packed with data covering each permutation of Porsche ever built, from 1948 through to the present day. Compiled with privileged access to the Porsche archives, and providing just about every fact and figure ever issued by the factory, it is an invaluable addition to Haynes's stable of successful books about the marque. Each type has an introduction, followed by model-by-model information including a reference colour photograph and highly detailed specification.
Adding to Haynes's stable of excellent Porsche titles, this book celebrates the glorious Carrera family, exploring some of the most iconic areas of Porsche history, and covering all eras, from the 356 to the current Carrera GT, the world's fastest road-going sports car. This supercar is a glorious addition to a very grand dynasty in motoring and motorsport history.
Over the years, Porsche has developed a reputation for technical innovation and for using cutting-edge technology in its road cars. This book travels chronologically through Porsche’s technical history, each chapter starting at a crucial point in the company’s evolution. From Dr Porsche’s preparation of high-powered prototype Beetles for competition purposes, to the technology incorporated in the latest Cayenne and Carrera GT models, as well as the latest 997-model 911, the reader is taken on a fascinating journey through the Porsche archives, uncovering much previously unknown information.
Denis Jenkinson had a passion for all things Porsche. His close contacts with the Stuttgart firm and his own detailed experiences of half a million miles of Porsche motoring gave him a unique pedigree as an author. First published in 1983, this classic book – reissued to meet continuing demand – chronicles the marque’s development from Auto Union P-Wagen through to Porsche 944. It will delight fans of both Porsche and of ‘Jenks’, as the legendary journalist was affectionately known throughout the motoring world.•
The super-fast Porsche 917 dominated international motorsport in the early 1970s. A racing car conceived amid bitter family rivalry and designed to win the world-famous Le Mans 24 Hours race, the 917 became the focus of obsessive ambition for all connected with its development. After a brilliant victory at Le Mans, where Porsche had been campaigning unsuccessfully for 19 years, it won North America’s Can-Am series two years running. Here is the full story of the 917, recently voted the world’s greatest racing car.•
This book chronicles the history of Porsche’s all-conquering 956/962 sports cars. The Group C formula, for which the 956 was built, allowed Porsche to demonstrate their expertise with the turbocharged racing engine, and the car won at Le Mans in its debut year of 1982. The 956, and the later 962, went on to dominate the French classic for an unbroken run of six years until 1988. During this spell, Porsche also lifted the World Sports Car Championship crown for five successive years. Here is the full story of the dominant Group C cars of the 1980s.•
With the continuing keen interest in anything Porsche-related, this beautifully illustrated, large-format book, by an established marque expert, is a welcome addition to Haynes’ already highly successful stable of Porsche titles. It chronicles the company’s first 50 years in motorsport, covering the evolution of the racing Porsches, the developing technology, the drivers, and the common thread that links the 550 Spyder of the carefree 1950s with the 911GTI-98 of today.
Legendary photographer Jesse Alexander produced some of his most indelible Porsche images between 1953 and 1962. During that time he lived and worked in Europe, driving to the races in his Porsche Super 90 coupe, which he bought directly from the factory. He would return his car to Stuttgart for maintenance, and this increased his familiarity with Porsche technicians and particularly with racing director Huschke von Hanstein. Thus began a strong relationship with the people and drivers of Porsche, which is reflected by the intimacy and access of his photographs. Though best known for his black and white work, Alexander’s early colour work is also featured in this book.
In a highly focused ten-year period Porsche sports cars went from being regular but comparatively humble class winners to completely dominate international prototype racing. This was a time of non-stop development mixed with turmoil and success under the direction of Dr. Ferdinand Piech, widely considered one of the great automotive geniuses of the modern era. Starting with the fiberglass-bodied 904, which proved nearly unbeatable during 1964 and 1965, this volume provides a vivid photographic history of Porsche’s relentless quest for victory, including Le Mans in 1970 917 coupe, and then beyond to the 1,500 HP 917 Can-Am spyder of Mark Donohue, which utterly crushed its opposition in 1973.
This lavish, coffee-table format photography book documents the largest and most comprehensive gathering of Porsche racing cars ever assembled. Photographer and racing driver Jeff Zwart constructed a temporary studio at Daytona International Speedway during a recent Rennsport Reunion to photograph more than 125 cars. Every model type from every decade is represented, from the first Porsche built in 1948 (356-001) through the 2004 GT3 RSR. This book features dozens of sensuous and colorful studies of characteristic model details and famous racing liveries. Porsche supported and approved this photography project, and it carries an official Porsche part number.
